A bunch of new Firefox goods!

30 11 2005

Firefox

Mozilla has indeed released Mozilla Firefox 1.5. It features.. well, they haven’t told us a whole lot of info yet really, just a download link on the site.

Speaking of the site, Mozilla has now started mozilla.com, a new site from mozilla bringing together Firefox and Thunderbird all in one place. There is no word of mozilla.org coming down because mozilla.com has launched, but I highly doubt it.

You can download version 1.5 from mozilla.com, or from one of the official mirrors.

Well, I am off to install 1.5.. enjoy!

Introducing Meebo, the best thing since sliced bread!

26 11 2005
meebo

I have come across this great web service called Meebo. If you are like me, you have multiple IM protocols in order to stay in touch with all your contacts. It is near impossible to have everyone conform to one single service (Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, MSN, etc.).So when on my computer, I use the great application GAIM. The best thing about GAIM is that not only is it cross protocol, it is also cross platform as well. So I can use it at work on my Windows XP system as well as my Linux setup at my aunts house.

But what do you use if you are on a system that does not allow you privileges of installing applications? That is the niche that the developers at Meebo are trying to fill. It is still in alpha, but conceptually it is a fantastic idea.

With Meebo, you create an exciting, yet sensual virtual environment where you can move around your “buddy list”, your IM windows, and more, as if they were windows in your normal OS, and not in a browser. It is 100% free as of now and can be accessed by going to Meebo.com.

Try it out, Seriously, I am amazed with this website and I am in LOVE with it.

Enjoy!

Visual Studio 2005 Express

24 11 2005
Studio 2005

Microsoft has released a free version of their Visual Studio 2005 program, called Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition. Visual Studio 2005 standard/enterprise/etc can be anywhere from $200-$5000, so this is definitely something you should get into, especially if you want to get into programming, or simply want to experiment. Unfortunately, due to this being an express version, you can not download Visual Studio 2005 all in one. You must download the different sections seperately. These sections can vary from 20 MB to 100. This express edition also includes an express version of SQL Server 2005.

Combining Nerd News

24 11 2005

I found one of the coolest sites on the net (in my opinion, of course). Checkout Slashdigg.com, which combines news from slashdot.org and digg.com, all integrated into one site. It features multiple viewing options (frames, side by side, etc). They also have super nerd news, which combines news from various large news site on the internet (news.com, wired, cnet, etc). cool!

Some Changes, and Updates

22 11 2005

I apologize that there have been no updates lately. I have been very busy with school, and not feeling very well. I am currently in the process of moving tech this out onto a dedicated server and to get some IPB issues settled out with somebody, so it may be a few days before a big update. I am having surgery on Wednesday for some more complications with my lungs from after my transplant. I had surgery last week, I think, yeah, and they didn’t see anything but now after reviewing the results, they have found something. Stick with me during this, I will be back soon posting update as usual.

Oh, and I have added a donation button on the right side of the blog, incase you like the site and want to support it.

Firefox: Switch tabs like never before!

15 11 2005
Firefox

If you’re like me, you have a lot of tabs open at a time. I find myself searching rapidly through atleast 8+ tabs on a regular basis. While browsing the net today I accidently found out that if you hold Control while pressing a number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc), it will switch to that tab. For example, if you have 9 tabs, and you press CTRL+9, it’ll open the last time. Pressing CTRL+2 will open the second tab. I’m not sure what happens if you have more then 9 tabs, but try it!

Cool Firefox extension: Tab Sidebar

9 11 2005

I came across a very unique extension for Mozilla Firefox while reading through digg.com

It is called Tab Sidebar, and it enables you to have a small sidebar (you can change the size later) on the left of your screen that shows a preview of all your tabs in it. You can also set it so that when the sidebar is open, the regular tab list on the top will not show. The tab preview has all the needed functions, including a button to close the tab, and a button to refresh the tab. Innovative!

Unfortunately, this requires you to have Firefox 1.5 (currently in RC1) in order to install. You can get this by going here.

I personally don’t think I could use this, because I often have 25+ tabs open, and they would become somewhat cramped.

Feel free to try this out, I’ve attached a screenshot. You can get Tab Sidebar by clicking here.

Enjoy!
