Since the release of Ulduar back in World of Warcraft patch 3.1, I’ve come across a lot of people, both in Guilds, and in PUGS, that don’t know you can activate Flame Leviathan in “Easy Mode” (that is, starting it so you don’t need to destroy all the towers to disable them).
These people talk to Lore Keeper of Norgannon which enables Hard Mode – You then have to kill all 4 of the Orbital Defense System towers in order to kill Flame Leviathan in easy mode.
The easy way, that a lot of people don’t seem to know is:
When you enter Ulduar and walk down the stairs, ignore Lore Keeper of Norgannon at the foot of the stairs, he’s the guy that enables “Hard Mode”.
Instead, carry on, over to the big forcefield/shield at the start of the gauntlet, and talk to Brann Bronzebeard. He’ll enable the encounter in “Normal” or “Easy” mode, so you can just head straight down to Flame Leviathan without going up or down any ramps to kill the towers.
You do of course have to kill the large pillars en route to Flame Leviathan – but not any of the ones up or down the ramps to the sides.
Doing it the easy way also means you take a lot less damage en route to Flame Leviathan, which makes it a LOT easier to do the Unbroken (10 Player) and Unbroken (25 Player) achievements.
I hope this helps! Look out for more in-depth Achievement/Hardmode guides in the near future!
