The hugely popular social networking site Facebook went offline Thursday, for the second time in 48 hours.

Users attempting to visit the site, used by over 500 million users worldwide, were greeted by a white page with a “DNS Error” message, instead of the usual website, used to keep in touch with friends, family, and strangers alike.

Facebook staff quickly posted a message over at their Twitter page @Facebook stating

Facebook may be slow or unavailable for some people because of site issues. We’re working to fix this quickly.

However, as of yet, no reason has been given for the downtime, and thousands upon thousands of angry Facebook users have been flooding the twitter page with message.

Today is the second day running that Facebook has been offline, yesterdays downtime was cited to be down to “issues with a third party networking provider”.

Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, and is now one of the world’s most popular websites.
