The ZTE-Blade/Orange San Francisco is an amazing new handset available in the UK on the Orange network for only £119.99 including £20 credit, on Pay as you go.

It comes as standard with Android 2.1 – Eclair, but will easily run  2.2 – Froyo.

This opens up a world of opportunities, such as free SatNav via Google Maps Navigation, and now it can be unlocked from the Orange (or any other network) completely free of charge.

Follow the simple steps below in order to unlock it.

  1. Remove the battery cover and battery, and insert your new SIM card on another provider.
  2. Before re-fitting the battery, take note of the IMEI number located inside the back of the phone, under the battery.
  3. Replace the battery, and the battery cover, then switch on your phone.
  4. The phone will now request a code to unlock it.
  5. Go to this calculator and put in your IMEI number and press “Submit Query”
  6. You will be given a code to unlock your phone – Type it in and your phone should be unlocked to any network – for free!

It really is that simple, don’t pay the prices other websites charge, just follow the above guide and you’ll have an unlocked, cheap but powerful Android based phone in no time!

Thanks to the guys over at Modaco for working out the algorithm and writing the calculator.
